There is no denying the fact that the income of any beauty service professional is directly proportionate to the skill set he/she possess. Whether you are in the field of make up, hair dressing or beauty therapy, no matter how knowledgeable you are or what degree you possess, ultimately it is the skills that you demonstrate goes in determining what value you command in this industry.
It is true that one absorbs skills either by means of observation or hands-on experience. The skill one picks up during an observation session in a seminar or demonstration class has its own limitation as such sessions are meant to only enlighten you with new techniques and know how. Just as one cannot become a good surgeon by observing other surgeons perform a surgery, similarly one cannot claim to be a professional hair dresser or therapist just by learning through demonstration.
The key is
Practise, Practise and Practise. There is no substitute to having ample hands-on practise session before you could be proclaimed as highly skilled professional.
I have seen many
beauty career aspirants falling prey to "cheap course" trap by undergoing training at various neighbourhood parlours that use their spare time or resource to run
beauty classes. They join such neighbourhood classes only to realise that they do not get to practise on the salon's paid clients (obviously no client who pays full charge would want any student to experiment on them). Lack of enough hands-on practise results in poor quality of professionals graduating from such parlour cum institutes which doesn't auger well for the industry.
Next time you decide to upgrade your skills or decide to take a plunge into this industry, remember that 'Look and learn' can only be a reference and nothing beyond that.
IF YOU SEE IT, YOU KNOW IT. IF YOU DO IT, YOU REMEMBER IT!
